This year's 5th annual summit, held before the AAO meeting, will be on Thursday, Nov. 14 at the Sheraton, New Orleans. A highlight of this year's summit will be two speakers, Dr. Cunningham said—Paul A. Sieving, MD, director of the NEI, and an official from the AAO, either the president or executive director. They will present 2013 highlights of innovations in their respective areas. Based on feedback from past participants, OIS officials have decided to continue their program format of a half-day of company presentations, split into talks on drugs, and devices and ophthalmic IT, followed by a pre-lunch talk or panel, a lunch with either interviews or speakers, and an afternoon of more informative talks and discussions. The summit will also continue its tradition of hosting a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) panel with Malvina Eydelman, MD, director, FDA Division of Ophthalmic, and Ear, Nose and Throat Devices, and Wiley A. Chambers, MD, acting director, Division of Anti-Infective and Ophthalmology Products, FDA, to address important issues from the FDA perspective. "If I was going to summarize, I'd say it is a state-of-the-art update on innovation in ophthalmology from all of those perspectives," Dr. Cunningham said.
