goal is something he's been striving
for since the 1980s, like Dr. Kelman's
experience with phacoemulsifica-
tion, Dr. Brown's ideas and designs
might not have been immediately
accepted but laid the groundwork
for many of the microinvasive
glaucoma surgery (MIGS) options on
the market today. Dr. Brown said he
felt he really should share this honor
with his wife, Mary Lynch, MD, At-
lanta, who has worked with him on
this front. The couple shares more
than two dozen patents for glauco-
ma and cataract surgery devices and
instruments.

Session Monday morning
highlighted everything
from big data to low-energy
phaco surgery to an eye
drop to treat presbyopia, and more,
but the main event was the Charles
D. Kelman Innovator's Lecture,
introduced by Dr. Kelman's wife,
Ann Kelman, and delivered by Reay
Brown, MD, Atlanta.

session on Sunday
evening covered the
Medicare Access and
CHIP Reauthorization Act
(MACRA) and other legis-
lative and regulatory issues. Nancey
McCann, ASCRS•ASOA director
of government relations, Fairfax,
Virginia, and Allison Madson,
ASCRS•ASOA manager of regulatory
affairs, Fairfax, Virginia, presented at
the session.
Ms. McCann highlighted some
of the big changes going on in
Washington, D.C., noting the elec-
tion of Donald Trump as president
and the fact that Republicans main-
tain a majority in both the Senate
and House of Representatives. She
also pointed out some of the physi-
cians in Congress and highlighted
some of the key players in Congress.
She went on to mention some
of the priority issues for ophthal-
mology, which include a continued
transition period for the quality
payment program (MACRA) and ad-
ditional program reforms; legislation
to extend the "transition period" for
3 additional years; regulatory relief;
refining cost measures; repealing
