of using benchmarks to improve
operations, productivity, staffing,

of their own experiences using
data in their decision-making and
were given the opportunity to
describe things they have changed
or plan to change in their practices
because of the insights they've
gleaned through ASOAnalytics.

ASOA NEWS
ASCRS ASOA ANNUAL MEETING
attendees used case situations in
two overarching areas: Operating
Efficiency and Staff Productivity
and Compensation.
Joe Theine, COE, Durango,
Colorado, and Ms. Waddle co-led
a hands-on case study. Workshop
attendees rolled up their sleeves
to look at examples of a poorly
organized and a well-organized
practice income statement.
Attendees discovered a well-or-
ganized income statement aids in
efficiently monitoring a practice's
financial performance. The over-
head ratio, staff salary expense
ratio, and common mistakes in
benchmarking were covered to
help attendees improve their abil-
ity to evaluate and interpret their
practice performance compared to
benchmarks. This case study came
together with a discussion on uses
of operating efficiency related
benchmarks for common manage-
ment decisions.
Ms. Mullaney and Ms. Waddle
co-led the second deep dive with a
practical lesson on Staff Produc-
tivity and Compensation. Attend-
ees walked through a real case sce-
nario and highlighted the practical
uses of compensation benchmarks
for practice management including
developing a compensation plan,
addressing high staff turnover,
and establishing staffing "levels."
Other highlights included using
benchmark data to improve com-
munications between the admin-
istrator and practice owners as
well as among the administrator/
physician partners and their staff.
Also discussed was the use of
productivity measures to set and
affirm reasonable expectations of
staff based on performance.
Attendees received several
new resources and tools designed
to make survey completion easier
and comparative analysis even
more relevant to their individual
practice.
