The faculty includes Marjan Farid, MD, Preeya Gupta, MD, and Francis Mah, MD. Didactic presentations will focus on the re- fractive impact of dry eye disease and other ocular surface diseases on preoperative measurements and surgical outcomes. A discussion about the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee ocular surface disease algorithm will offer insights into integrating this new algorithm into surgical practices. The panel of experts will discuss how to imple- ment more consistent practice patterns for assessing lid and meibo- mian gland structure and function in order to proactively identify the signs and symptoms of meibomian gland dysfunction. Didactic lectures will highlight the available diagnostic and treatment options for different dry eye and ocular surface diseases. The program will also feature interactive case discussions on appropriately pairing treatment choices to the severity and etiology of acute and chronic dry eye disease. The session will begin with a review of relevant data from the 2018 ASCRS Clinical Survey that helped establish the educational goals of this symposium. Results of the survey revealed that on average, respondents think that only 39% of their dry eye patients have a mix of meibomian gland dysfunction and aqueous deficien- cy. When treating moderate, mixed-etiology ocular surface disease, lid compresses/lid hygiene and cyclosporine were the only options selected by a majority of respondents, at 71% and 61%, respectively. On average, respondents reported that 32% of their cataract sur- gery patients present as asymptomatic but still have ocular surface disease postoperatively. When treating meibomian gland dysfunc- tion, the vast majority of respondents (91%) reported using warm compresses. This EyeWorld CME Education event will take place today in room 20D from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. This program is supported by un- restricted educational grants from Shire, Johnson & Johnson Vision, Sun Pharmaceutical, and Allergan.
