ASOA NEWS COE designation adds to knowledge and professionalism in eyecare T hirty-six individuals earned the Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) designation from March 1, 2018 to Feb. 28, 2019. The COE designation recog- nizes those who have achieved the experience, knowledge, and skills identified by the National Board for the Certification of Oph- thalmic Executives (NBCOE) as essential to practice management and promotes excellence and pro- fessionalism in ophthalmic prac- tice management. Applicants must demonstrate they have at least 2 years of healthcare administration experience and 1 or more years of ophthalmic practice management experience. Relevant experience includes the following content domains: general ophthalmic knowledge, financial management, operations, information technolo- gy management, human resources, and risk management and regula- tory compliance. The experience does not need to be completed in 3 consecutive years; however, the cumulative total of 3 years must have occurred within the preced- ing 5 calendar years. Eligibility is not limited to ASOA members, but ASOA members receive a discounted application fee. Find out more about the COE designation at www.asoa.org/coe. Dan Chambers Administrative Eyecare award given for meeting efficiency article A n article on making meetings efficient that appeared in Administra- tive Eyecare (AE) maga- zine received the 2019 Editor's Choice Award during yesterday's ASOA Opening General Session. Keith Casebolt, Medford, Oregon, was honored for his arti- cle, "Pity the Woodpecker—Mak- ing Meetings Productive." It was published in the January/February 2018 issue of AE. This annual award recognizes the best member-authored article published in ASOA's award-win- ning Administrative Eyecare maga- zine during the preceding calendar year. The goal of the award is to recognize and thank contributing authors and to encourage new writing contributions for future AE issues. The award winner is selected by the members of the AE Editorial Board through a scoring system using several evalu- ation criteria. Both practitioners and consul- tants who are ASOA members are eligible to receive the award. This is the seventh year that the AE Editor's Choice Award has been presented.
