ASCRS ANNUAL MEETING DAILY NEWS
Refractive Day is split into
four sections, starting with the
preop evaluation, which will
include presentations on various
aspects of corneal topography,
ocular surface diagnostics and
rehabilitation, cataract surgery
with an abnormal cornea, IOL se-
lection, postop enhancement and
adjustments, and more.
The second section, focused
on refractive corneal surgery, will
start with growing your laser vi-
sion correction practice, followed
by an update on SMILE, and
prevention and management of
corneal refractive complications.
The section will conclude with the
Steinert Refractive Lecture.
"We are excited to have the
Steinert Refractive Lecture given
by the first person in the world to
perform excimer laser photoab-
lation, Marguerite McDonald,
MD, who will speak on the new
category of presbyopia-correcting
topical medications," Drs.
Donnenfeld, McCabe, and
Thompson said.
The third section in the
afternoon will look at refractive
cataract surgery: how to get start-
ed, the business of it, choosing the
right IOL and details on specif-
ic IOL categories, treating the
unhappy postop patient, how to
perform IOL exchange, and more.
Finally, the fourth section will
focus on new technologies, such
as custom topographic and wave-
front ablations, accommodating
IOLs, adjustable IOL technology,
laser refractive indexing, what's
next for trifocals and EDOF IOLs,
and more.
"As always, ASCRS Refractive
Day will be the one stop for ev-
erything you need to know about
refractive cornea and cataract
surgery with the perfect mix of
didactic and case-based presenta-
tions," the program chairs said.
What's coming at ASCRS Refractive Day
A
SCRS Refractive Day is
ready to take your cat-
aract and cornea-based
refractive surgery to
the next level. This anticipated
subspecialty day is chaired by
Eric Donnenfeld, MD, Cathleen
McCabe, MD, and Vance
Thompson, MD, with more
than 50 ophthalmologists
invited as expert faculty.
The program chairs of
Refractive Day described it as
"an exciting opportunity for
clinicians to evaluate the efficacy
of conventional and advanced
technologies to improve both
the preoperative evaluation and
postoperative results of patients
undergoing cornea and lens-based
refractive surgery."
"We will have specific sessions
to understand the advantages
and disadvantages of new re-
fractive IOL materials, designs,
and cornea technologies, such as
trifocals, extended depth of focus
IOLs, topographic and wavefront
ablations, and SMILE," Drs.
Donnenfeld, McCabe, and
Thompson told EyeWorld.
"The 2021 ASCRS Glauco-
ma Day will be an outstanding
opportunity for attendees to keep
abreast of the rapidly changing
field of glaucoma," Dr. Herndon
said. "The latest diagnostic and
therapeutic options for glaucoma
