on LASIK and cataract surgery. He
serves on the editorial advisory
boards of several publications.
Peter Laibson, MD
Dr. Laibson
served as the
director of the
Cornea Service at
Wills Eye Hospital
in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania,
from 1973–1999. He currently
serves as director emeritus of
the Cornea Service at Wills Eye
Hospital.
After fellowship, Dr. Laibson
became the first ophthalmologist
to practice full time in the cornea
subspecialty at Wills Eye Hospital.
He went on to train more than
200 cornea fellows and publish
more than 350 articles and book
chapters. Dr. Laibson was involved
in the first research for an antivi-
ral drug for ocular herpes simplex
virus infections. He has a partic-
ular interest in corneal diseases
and dystrophies, viral eye diseas-
es, and corneal transplantation.
Dr. Laibson is a past presi-
dent of the Cornea Society. He
has been recognized with several
awards from medical societies, in-
cluding the American Academy of
Ophthalmology Lifetime Achieve-
ment Honor Award and the
Cornea Society Castroviejo Medal
and Dohlman Award. In 2010,
he was recognized as one of five
International Medalist recipients
at the World Cornea Congress.
Dr. Laibson was medical
director of the Lions Eye Bank
of Delaware Valley for 50 years
before retiring in 2018. He re-
ceived his undergraduate degree
from the University of Vermont,
his medical degree from the State
University of New York, he per-
formed his residency at Wills Eye
Hospital, and he held a fellowship
at Massachusetts Eye & Ear.

recognized today at the ASCRS
Opening General Session as the
David A. Karcher Honored Guests.
Stephen Brint, MD, FACS
Dr. Brint serves
as medical di-
rector of Brint
Custom Vision in
Metairie, Louisi-
ana, which was
founded in 1977.
In June 1991, he became the first
physician in the U.S. to perform
LASIK and served as medical
monitor of the first U.S. FDA clini-
cal trial for LASIK.
He was the lead investigator
for the Alcon Custom Cornea
wavefront LASIK procedure
and medical monitor for all
FDA trials for the WaveLight
Allegretto Wavefront Optimized
laser (Alcon) and custom LASIK
studies. Dr. Brint was involved
in FDA clinical trials for several
new IOLs and has been involved
with research for intraoperative
aberrometry and femtosecond
laser-assisted cataract surgery.
Dr. Brint received his under-
graduate degree from Washington
University in St. Louis and his
medical degree from Tulane
University School of Medicine.
There he also performed his
residency and went on to teach
as an associate clinical professor.
Dr. Brint has performed more
than 30,000 LASIK procedures
and has received several local and
