ASCRS ANNUAL MEETING
DAILY NEWS
Then, be sure to take time to
reset. "When we don't take time to
stop, life does this for us," Ms. Grady
said. She noted that people who take
two 7-day vacations over the course
of the year extend their life by 35%.
You have to make time for what mat-
ters, Ms. Grady said.
Another way to reset is prac-
ticing gratitude. Teams who have
managers who give regular praise
and appreciation are 31% more
productive and have 70% less stress.
Gratitude should be specific and
shared in the moment, Ms. Grady
said, noting that we have to sit in
that good feeling of gratitude for 15–
20 seconds for it to be permanently
embedded in our neural structure.
Finally, she said to practice
mindfulness and to breathe. Mind-
fulness is about refocusing when you
get distracted. This takes practice,
Ms. Grady said. She also showcased
different breathing exercises that can
change the way our emotions are
processed.
Ms. Grady concluded with "ev-
eryday you're going to be charged
with stressors and overwhelmed. …
It is what it is, but you can choose
how you want to show up."
"Choose the mood you bring
into the room. Your mood is what
drives the mood of the team. If it's
not a great mood, tell them why. …
You don't have to be perfect. You just
have to be human. Be kind, grateful,
and know that you are strong."
