Sunday, April 27, 2014 ASCRS News Today by Erin L. Boyle EyeWorld Editor The Sunday Summit to highlight genetics, state of the art in subspecialties Haag-Streit Announces a Merger We just changed the world of toric implant surgery — again. Haag-Streit's connectivity pairs up LENSTAR and its ophthalmic surgical microscope for the ultimate precision and confidence. Images obtained through LENSTAR transfer to the new integrated remote-viewing station on the Haag-Streit microscope. LENSTAR, now with 6mm topo, is the ultimate tool for planning the entire procedure, from incision and IOL placement to cylinder power choice and more. And, all of this information is mapped over a high-resolution image of the eye. Coupled with the microscope's outstanding red reflex and superior optics that deliver a significant increase in depth of field, surgeons can operate with confidence. Work with the best. "We tried to pack an incredible amount of information that was clinically relevant, useful, and inter- esting into a small period of time," said Edward J. Holland, MD, chair of the ASCRS Program Committee. "I don't think the audience will have an opportunity to get this at any other meeting. The Sunday Summit is a great chance for the ophthal- mologist to hear some new and exciting clinical information." ASCRS Lecture on Science and Medicine This year's ASCRS Lecture on Science and Medicine will be given by Adam Rutherford, PhD, and is titled "Creation: The History and Future of Life, DNA, and Genes." This lecture is always popular with attendees, Dr. Holland said, and features an expert in the field of medicine outside of ophthalmology who discusses topics of interest within the specialty. Dr. Rutherford is "a leader in the emerging field of evolution, genetics, and synthetic human biology," Dr. Holland said. continued on page 7 Adam Rutherford, PhD, will give this year's ASCRS Lecture on Science and Medicine.
