EW SHOW DAILY 19 T en of ophthalmology's most outstanding young residents are attending this year's ASCRS•ASOA Sympo- sium & Congress as a result of the ASCRS Foundation's Resident Excellence Awards program. Each year, the Foundation gives 10 travel grants to extraordinary residents through a competitive application process. The application period is open from October to January, and applicants must be nominated by their program directors. The Foundation's Review Committee considers exemplary resident performance in the areas of research, patient care, leadership, and education. In addition to the travel grant, the ASCRS Foundation provides complimentary meeting registration and housing. The total awards package offers sufficient financial support for four days of concen- trated learning at the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress. The 2014 Residence Excellence Award winners are: Sejal R. Amin, MD, Mayo Clinic; Ryan J. Fante, MD, University of Michigan; Michael Greenwood, MD, Case Western Reserve University; Mustafa S. EW Y ou'll have energetic music to help wake you up at this morning's ASCRS Opening General Session (OGS). A popular Martha's Vineyard-based six-piece band called Entrain will help get the OGS under- way today at 9:40 a.m. Entrain combines rock, blues, calypso, and ska with zydeco, jazz, and funk—often within the same song. Entrain will perform a few songs at the beginning of the OGS and a little later. The group was formed by drummer Tom Major in 1993. The group also includes conga/djembe/trombonist Sam Holmstock, lead singer/guitarist Brian Alex, bassist M'Talewa, saxophonist/percussionist Phillip Young, and keyboardist Cale Hawkins. The members have performed with a variety of musicians, including Bo Diddley, Carly Simon, Chuck Berry, Southside Johnny, James Montgomery, Flor De Cana, and Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Entrain has recorded eight albums, all available on Dolphin Safe Records. "The whole Entrain concept is based around the drums and infectious rhythms. Once we've got that ... anything goes, everything goes," said Mr. Major on the band's website. Entrain's latest record, "Reason To Feel Good," has had heavy rotation in markets like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New England, upstate New York, Aspen, Santa Fe, Houston, Cincinnati, and Nashville. The OGS will take place from 10 a.m. to noon today in the Grand Ballroom of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, but arrive early for a good seat and to hear Entrain. You will find music samples and more information about Entrain at www.entrain.com.
