EW SHOW DAILY 41 ASCRS•ASOA SYMPOSIUM & CONGRESS, BOSTON 2014 ASCRS Symposia Cornea offerings by Ellen Stodola A symposium to update attendees on the present and future of corneal collagen crosslinking will take place today from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., sponsored by the ASCRS FDA Committee. The session will discuss the current status of crosslinking in the United States and will have comments from Wiley Chambers II, MD, deputy director of the Division of Transplant and Ophthalmology Products, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, FDA. Other speakers will look at ethical concerns with crosslinking, what can currently be done, and an international perspective on the technique. A session from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. today will focus exclusively on keratoconus, including decisions for keratoconus management, patient acceptance and tolerance, and identifying different types and characteristics of keratoconus. Sunday A session from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m., "Cornea: FALK, FLEK, DALK, DMEK," will explore topics such as the DMEK learning curve, using the big bubble technique for DMEK, femtosecond laser deep anterior lamellar dissection for DALK and DSAEK, and penetrating keratoplasty performed with a femtosecond laser. A symposium sponsored by the Cornea Society will explore "What's New in the Management of Corneal Ectasias." This session will take place from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and will cover topographic diagnosis of corneal ectasia and lens implanta- tion in corneal ectasia, as well as treatment controversies, specifically corneal crosslinking and DALK. From 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., a session will focus on cornea topics in dry eye management. Christopher Starr, MD, will present on the results from the 2013 ASCRS Clinical Survey. Other topics include thermal pulsation treatment, dye-enhanced Argon laser punctum T he 2014 ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress will feature many glaucoma offerings. Posters on the subject of glaucoma will be available for access until Tuesday at kiosks throughout the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. These posters will showcase research from institutions around the world on a variety of topics within the subspecialty. Posters that will be on view will include "Bimatoprost 0.01% or 0.03% After Latanoprost 0.005% Treatment in Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension: Two Randomized 12-Week Trials," from Jonathan S. Myers, MD, Steven D. Vold, MD, Fiaz Zaman, MD, Julia Williams, and David A. Hollander, MD, as well as "Undetected Angle Closure in Patients With Diagnosis of Open-Angle Glaucoma," from Sarah M. Simpson, MD, Devesh K. Varma, MD, Amandeep S. Rai, MD, and Ike K. Ahmed, MD. Saturday Today, the "ASCRS Paper Session 1-L: Glaucoma Surgical" will feature Reay H. Brown, MD, as moderator and a panel of experts at the session, which will include presentations on research in the field of glaucoma surgery. The paper session will run from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday Tomorrow, those interested in glaucoma and retina-related topics can attend the "S-7 Symposium: Clinical challenges in the co-man- agement of glaucoma and retinal disease," sponsored by the ASCRS Glaucoma Clinical Committee and the ASCRS Retina Clinical Committee, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Spotlight on glaucoma by Erin L. Boyle stenosis for treatment, and the prevalence of dry eye symptoms vs. dry eye disease in general and refractive surgery populations. "Pardon the Ophthalmology: Hot Topics in Cornea and External Disease" will take place from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee. The symposium will feature experts discussing the management and treatment options of corneal cases. Monday A symposium from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. will again look at corneal collagen crosslinking. Moderated by Terry Kim, MD, and Doyle Stulting, MD, it will cover a variety of issues per- taining to the hot topic, including treatment methods, complications, clinical trials, and regulatory issues. A symposium on innovations in corneal transplantation around the world will incorporate the 2014 Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The sympo- sium will include presentations on innovations in limbal stem cell transplantation, lamellar kerato- plasty, endothelial keratoplasty, and femtosecond laser-assisted ker- atoplasty. The Richard L. Lindstrom, MD, Lecture will be given by Shigeru Kinoshita, MD, on "Stem Cell Therapy for Corneal Endothelial Disease." Tuesday A session on DSEK, DMEK and DALK will take place from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. and will look at the outcomes of these procedures. Thomas John, MD, is the moderator, and Edwin Chen, MD, Ronald Gaster, MD, and Neda Shamie, MD, are panelists. Pathology and biomechanics of the cornea will be discussed from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Presentations include "Corneal Biomechanical Properties in Keratoconic, Myopic, and Hyperopic Eyes as Measured with Scheimpflug-Based Tonometer" and "Outcomes of Phototherapeutic Keratectomy for Bullous Keratopathy."
