EW SHOW DAILY 16 D uring this year's ASCRS• ASOA Symposium & Congress, a three-day Technicians & Nurses Program will bring a leading faculty of ophthalmologists, nurses, and ophthalmic technicians to teach on current cataract and refractive surgery topics. The program, developed by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO), allows attendees to customize their agenda from a range of topics relevant to their position, such as pharmacology, new tech- nologies in cataract and refractive surgery, toxic anterior segment syndrome (TASS), femtosecond lasers, coding, anesthesia, electronic health records, imaging, and risk management. Mah, MD "The Technicians & Nurses Program is a valuable learning and networking opportunity in maintaining your eyecare team's knowledge and skills on research, treatments, and technologies in the clinic," said Tyree Carr, MD, presi- dent of JCAHPO. "A well-trained and certified eyecare team is key to providing quality patient care and ophthalmologist productivity," Dr. Carr said. JCAHPO is the international certifying and continuing education agency for allied health personnel in ophthalmology and offers certifica- tion at three core levels: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). Continuing education (CE) credit The Technicians & Nurses Program has 36 hours of courses available and is approved for a maximum of 18 JCAHPO Group A credits per registrant. Additional Group B credits are available by attending physician courses/symposia/paper sessions at ASCRS that are desig- nated for AMA PRA Category 1 credit. Select courses have been approved for OPS and AOC credit. The program is also approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for 35 contact hours. A maximum of 17 CA BRN contact hours can be earned. The session covers everything from government relations to legal risk to better communication via public speaking and publishing to contract negotiation to the difference between private practice versus academic medicine. The program is sponsored by the ASCRS Residents Task Force, ASCRS Young Physicians and Residents Clinical Committee, the ASOA Physician Relations Committee, and the Cornea Society.
