The session is spon- sored by the Alliance of Cataract and Refractive Specialty Societies, which includes ASCRS, APACRS, ESCRS, and ALACCSA-R/LASCRS. EW G et a global perspective on anterior segment surgery during Sunday's Combined Symposia of Cataract and Refractive Societies. The session will bring an inter- national field of experts together to review the best presentations from meetings held by the Latin Ameri- can Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ALACCSA-R/LASCRS), Asia-Pacific Association of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (APACRS), and European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS). This session will emphasize the vari- ous techniques and technologies pursued in different regions of the world. Edward J. Holland, MD, Cincinnati, will serve as moderator. "Survive or Thrive in the Mod- ern Healthcare Environment: Clin- ical Changes to Practice" will focus on changes that certain practices have made to boost patient satisfac- tion and quality of care. Some of the subjects that presenters will discuss include electronic medical records, premium IOLs, and adding a dry eye center of excellence. The symposium takes place from 3:00–4:30 p.m. in room 6D. EW S ymposia at the ASCRS meeting today will help attendees with a variety of clinical challenges. "Quality of Vision: Beyond 20/20," is a case-based sym- posium that will focus on quality of vision issues with current and future IOL platforms as well as new diagnostic technologies that may aid surgeons in making optimal choic- es to maximize quality of vision for premium IOL patients. Topics covered will include dysfunctional lens syndrome, depth of focus IOLs, multifocal IOLs, and adaptive optics. This symposium, sponsored by the ASCRS Refractive Surgery Clini- cal Committee, will be held from 1:00–2:30 p.m. in ballroom 20D of the San Diego Convention Center. "Evaluation and Management of the Cataract Patient with Pre-exist- ing Retinal Disease" will cover cata- ract surgery in patients with age-re- lated macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, visual surprises, and cystoid macular edema, among other areas. Sponsored by the Retina Clinical Committee, the symposium takes place from 1:00–2:30 p.m. today in room 10 of the convention center. "New Technology from the Old World" is sponsored by both ASCRS and ESCRS and will discuss a variety of devices and studies, with present- ers all hailing from Europe. This will include new technology IOLs, trifo- cal IOLs, high add segment multifo- cal and macular degeneration, glau- coma devices and stents, expanding modalities of corneal crosslinking, and a field study of the SMILE refrac- tive procedure.
