EW SHOW DAILY 22 Sunday, April 19, 2015 ASOA News Today by Vanessa Caceres EyeWorld Contributing Writer T he ASOA workshops held annually at the ASOA Congress give administra- tors and their staff in-depth knowledge of leadership, coding, and practice management. Many of the ASOA workshops were held on Friday, with the COE Review Course continuing through Saturday. The Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) review course cov- ers business operations, basic oph- thalmic knowledge, legal and regu- latory affairs, and risk management, among other topics. This course is one of many suggested resources for preparation for the COE exam. The "ICD-10 Implementation Training" session was a hands-on, interactive workshop to prepare attendees for ICD-10 implementa- tion. This workshop was led by the Corcoran Consulting Group. At "Maximizing Leadership Skills: Sustaining Yourself and Your Team Through Turns," presenters helped attendees identify their own leadership style and discussed how to lead in today's challenging envi- ronment. "Practice Management Boot Camp: What You Must Know to Suc- ceed" gave new ophthalmic practice managers the chance to discover the basics of practice management in 8 core areas. During "Pinto Practice Coach- ing," consultant John B. Pinto, San Diego, discussed how ophthalmic administrators and other practice leaders can become better skilled at leading practices. "Lean Management" introduced attendees to the basic concepts of lean management and shared practi- cal tools for implementation. "Healthcare the Disney Way," led by Mark David Jones, a former Disney leader, discussed how to improve patient satisfaction ratings with techniques used by Disney. "Moving Up Successfully: Skills for New Managers" provided an interactive course to prepare new managers to more skillfully lead their office. Fellow is the highest and most prestigious membership status bestowed on ASOA members who have achieved outstanding levels of accomplishments exhibited through their education, experience, and background in ophthalmic practice management. Sandra joins other ASOA fellows Candace S. Simerson, COE, CMPE, FASOA; E.Q. Skip Fahel, FASOA; Julia C.
