Skills transfer
session provides
attendees advanced
phaco pearls
I
nstructor Kevin M. Miller, MD,
Los Angeles, led the "Advanced
phaco" skills transfer lab, which
gave attendees a broad overview
of a multitude of phacoemulsi-
fication pearls. Experts in the field of
cataract surgery taught the session,
a skills phaco lab for the experi-
enced surgeon. Tips and the latest
techniques for phaco were discussed
between faculty and attendees as
attendees learned the techniques in
real time, including microincisional
phaco techniques, chopping, flip-
ping, clear corneal incisions, capsule
staining, advanced machine settings,
capsular tension rings, and new IOL
technology.
"What can you do in this lab?"
Dr. Miller asked. "Pretty much
anything. Anything you can think
of with the iris or pupil, we can do
it here."
Phaco platforms from Abbott
Medical Optics (Abbott Park, Ill.),
Alcon (Fort Worth, Texas), and
Bausch + Lomb (Bridgewater, N.J.)
