The COE designation recog- nizes those who have achieved the experience, knowledge, and skills identified by the National Board for the Certification of Ophthalmic Executives (NBCOE) as essential to practice management. This elite certification promotes excellence and professionalism in ophthalmic practice management. Applicants must demonstrate they have at least 2 years of healthcare administration experience and 1 or more years of ophthalmic practice management. Relevant experience includes the following content areas: finance and accounting, marketing, business operations, risk management and regulatory compliance, manage- ment information systems, human resources, and basic ophthalmic knowledge. The experience does not need to be completed in 3 consecu- tive years; however, the cumulative total of 3 years must have occurred within the preceding 5 calendar years. Eligibility is not limited to ASOA members; however, ASOA members receive a discounted application fee. Find out more about the COE designation at www.asoa.org/coe. And how can practice leaders inspire others to do an outstanding job? Today's joint symposium "Creating the Dream Team: The Secrets of Successful Leadership" will guide attendees through successful leadership models for practices. Jointly sponsored by ASCRS and ASOA, the symposium will feature a panel comprised of physicians and administrators with subject matter geared to both audiences. Several real-life practice scenarios will be presented featuring different leadership models used to create an environment of inspiration, dedication, and enthusiasm in the practice. There will be time allotted for audience questions and interaction. John S. Bell, MBA, COE, CMPE, will moderate the symposium. Panelists will include Mary Sue Jacka, MBA, D. Brian Kim, MD, Traci J. Kim, MA, CMPE, Parag D. Parekh, MD, and John Riordan. The symposium will take place today in room 6A of the San Diego Convention Center from 1:00–2:30 p.m. EW by Vanessa Caceres EyeWorld Contributing Writer A customer service-orient- ed article written by a practice administrator in Pennsylvania received Administrative Eyecare (AE) Editor's Choice Award at yesterday's ASOA Opening General Session. This award recognizes the best ASOA member-authored article published in Administrative Eyecare during the preceding calendar year. The award was established to recognize and thank contributing authors and to encourage new Pennsylvania administrator receives award for article on customer service Cynthia Corsetti, MS, SPHR writing contributions for future Administrative Eyecare issues. Articles are reviewed and scored by the Administrative Eyecare Edito- rial Board. Both practitioners and consultants who are ASOA members are able to receive the award. This year's award-winning arti- cle is "Defining Customer Service," written by Cynthia Corsetti, MS, SPHR, practice administrator of Chang Eye Group, Pittsburgh. The article was published in the Running the Practice: Customer Care section of the January/February 2014 issue of Administrative Eyecare. This is the third year that the AE Editor's Choice Award has been given out. The award-winning Administra- tive Eyecare magazine focuses on is- sues relevant to ophthalmic admin- istrators. It publishes in print 6 times a year. It is mailed to members of the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators and contains timely practice management information.
