The immediate past president is Sondra G. Hoffman, Florida Eye Clinic, Altamonte Springs, Fla. The president elect is Daniel Chambers, MBA, COE, Key Whit- man Eye Center, Dallas. Vice presi- dent is Linda Georgian, COE, Inland Eye Institute Medical Group, Colton, Calif. Members at large of the ASOA Board of Directors include Karen S. Bachman, COE, COMT, CCRC, ROUB, The Eye Institute of Utah, Salt Lake City; Ashlie L. Barefoot, MBA, COE, Carolina Cataract & Laser Center, Ladson, S.C.; and William T. Koch, CPC, COE, The Retina Institute, St. Louis. The ASOA Board also includes Don Bell as the ASCRS liaison; Charla Ferchow, COE, Eye Physi- cians of Central Florida, Maitland, Fla., as the National Board for the Certification of Ophthalmic Exec- utives (NBCOE) liaison, and ASOA executive director Laureen Rowland, CAE. Founded in 1986 by administra- tors for administrators, ASOA is the premier organization for the busi- ness side of the ophthalmic practice. Serving physicians, administrators, managers, and other practice and clinic staff, its mission is to advance the skills and professionalism of ophthalmic management. The president elect is Karen Butler, LPN, COE, Crew Eye Center, Big Rapids, Mich. The new vice president is Robb Linafelter, MHA, COE, Eye Surgical Associates, Lincoln, Neb. Cathi Lyons, MA, COE, COT, Gordon-Weiss-Schanzlin Vision New NBCOE Board members elected Charla Ferchow, COE Institute, San Diego, and Liz Parrott, COE, Raleigh Ophthalmol- ogy, Raleigh, N.C., are new NBCOE members. Returning board members include Sue Balfe, Invision Eye Care Toms River, N.J., and Ralph Simone, COE, COT, Eye Associates of Boca Raton, Fla. ASOA executive director, Laureen Rowland, CAE, also serves on the board, along with Sondra G. Hoffman, COE, CPC, CMPE, ASOA immediate past president, Florida Eye Clinic, Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Tamim Qaum, MD, COE, Via Christi Clinic, Wichita, Kan. Dr. Qaum is the ASCRS liaison. The COE designation recog- nizes those who have achieved the experience, knowledge, and skills identified by the NBCOE as essential to practice management. This elite certification promotes excellence and professionalism in ophthalmic practice management.
