21 EW SHOW DAILY complement of the most advanced and sophisticated equipment is important in providing a high level of premier care. However, it is the ability to interpret and apply this wonderful technology that makes all the difference in the world." Dr. Barnebey has always empha- sized the importance of education, medical innovation, and expanded biomedical research. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to providing the finest care pos- sible through safer, less invasive, and more effective treatments that improve the quality of life in his patients. He has been a leading con- tributor to ophthalmology since the early 1980s, publishing articles in major medical journals such as the Journal of Glaucoma and the Ameri- can Journal of Ophthalmology. While he treats thousands of glaucoma and cataract patients each year, he never forgets the importance of treating each patient with complete individ- ual focus. He is 1 of only a few ophthal- mologists in the Northwest who is a cataract surgeon trained in the sub- specialty of interventional ophthal- mology, performing canaloplasty using micro-catheter technology to open and stent the natural filtration canal in the eye. EW H oward Barnebey, MD, Bellevue, Washington, a Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) commissioner representing ASCRS and ASOA, will present "Sophisticat- ed Clinic Management of Glauco- ma" from 3:30–4:30 p.m. today in rooms R08 and R09 of the conven- tion center. This course will review the Preferred Practice Guidelines for the management of glaucoma patients with a focus on integrating imaging and visual field data into a clinical data set. A comprehensive rationale for a glaucoma matrix will aug- ment the presentation. Attendees will discuss factors that determine "control" in the glaucoma patient and discuss therapeutic options for short- and long-term management. The technician's role, as well as the role of imaging and perimetry, will be reviewed. "I think that our eyes are the windows to the world, and they deserve special attention," Dr. Barnebey said. "Glaucoma is a specialty where details make all the difference. The difference between perfect vision and poor vision is often measured in microns or millimeters of mercury.
