The program emphasizes the importance of expanded education, medical innovation, and research, which makes the difference in quali- ty patient care." In the 16th year of collaboration between ASCRS and the Joint Com- mission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO), the 3-day Technicians & Nurses Pro- gram advances clinical staff perfor- mance and improves patient care. Prominent faculty will present 36 CE credit hours of leading topics in ophthalmology for today's successful clinical eyecare team. CE credit for select courses has been approved by JCAHPO, OPS, AOC, and CA BRN. Additional Group B credits are available by attending physician courses/symposia/paper sessions at the meeting that are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Crossover between the ASOA and Technicians and Nurses program will be permitted to those registered in the joint registration category only. Those registered solely for either the ASOA or Technicians & Nurses Program will not be allowed to cross over. All registrants in either catego- ry are welcome to attend the ASCRS program. EW A t the Technicians & Nurs- es Program today through Monday, 38 ophthalmol- ogists, Certified Allied Ophthalmic Personnel (AOP), and consultants will bring current trends, research, technolo- gies, and updates on important oph- thalmic issues facing ophthalmic practices and their eyecare teams. Prominent faculty will present a two-track program in clinical and nursing/ASC, highlighting hot top- ics that are essential for the clinical staff to keep pace with and that impact their practices. Nancey McCann, ASCRS•ASOA director of government relations, will present "Legislative and Regu- latory Update: MACRA Overview." This session is intended to help ophthalmology practices with the transition to the new programs under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA), which include the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) and Advanced Alternative Payment Models (APMs). The session will give an overview of the MACRA law, the four categories of MIPS, and the options ophthalmology practices have to participate in the program in 2017 to impact 2019 payments. This presentation, specially tailored to ophthalmology practices, will present strategies to avoid a penalty and potentially earn a bonus. Experts on clinical issues that nurses and AOP must know and un- derstand will speak on critical topics ranging from principal investigator and standardizing measurements in clinical research trials to medicolegal issues related to electronic health re- cords. Popular topics on chart audits and scribing will also be presented. In the surgical/ASC and nurs- ing session, fast-paced sessions will provide wide coverage of current topics. "Corneal Biometry and IOL Calculations," which will focus on the methods of evaluating quality and repeatability of measurements with special cases of IOL power cal- culations including post-refractive calculations, will be presented by Daniel Chang, MD, and Jacqueline Whinery, CCRC. "Better Surgery Through Chemicals" will be pre- sented by William Myers, MD, and "Facial Injectables: An Ophthalmol- ogist's Perspective" will be presented by Steve Yoelin, MD. These and other faculty have dedicated their careers to providing the finest care possible through safer and more effective treatments to improve the quality of life of their patients. Back by popular demand are faculty and topics on pharmacology and anes- thesia management, toxic anterior segment syndrome, refractive sur- gery, glaucoma surgery, instrument care and sterilization, and Lean Six Sigma in ophthalmology clinics and surgery centers.
