Permanent exhibits touch on a variety of mammals, birds, art, dinosaurs, and gems and minerals, among others. General admission for adults is $12. There is also an option to purchase a combi- nation ticket with the Tar Pits. Santa Monica Pier 200 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA 90401 310-458-8900 santamonicapier.org This popular tourist spot is located in Santa Monica, California and is more than 100 years old. It features shopping, dining, and the famous Pacific Park, complete with rides including the iconic Pacific Wheel. Universal Studios Hollywood 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City, CA 91608 800-864-8377 www.universalstudioshollywood.com Located just outside of downtown Los Angeles in Universal City is the film studio and theme park. Uni- versal Studios Hollywood features a number of popular rides and attractions, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Day tickets start at around $100, depending on the day. La Brea Tar Pits and Museum 5801 Wilshire Boulevard 323-857-6300 www.tarpits.org/la-brea-tar-pits This museum in downtown Los Angeles has a number of Ice Age fossils from asphalt deposits that are thousands of years old. Excavations continue at the site as well. The mu- seum is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a few exceptions. Admission for adults ranges from $12 to $19. Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) 5905 Wilshire Boulevard www.lacma.org Open daily except for Wednesday, LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. General admission for adults is $15, with some specially ticketed exhibitions requiring an extra charge. Exhi- bitions include art that covers a variety of historical periods. Museum of Contemporary Art 250 South Grand Avenue 213-621-2766 www.moca.org This contemporary art museum has three different locations in Los Angeles, with the main one being on Grand Avenue. It was first estab- lished in 1979 and has more than 7,000 contemporary art objects. It has a number of permanent and temporary exhibitions. Dolby Theatre 6801 Hollywood Boulevard dolbytheatre.com This central Hollywood auditorium hosts many shows. The theater first opened in 2001 and can hold more than 3,000 people. For those who want an inside look, tours of the theater are also available. Tours op- erate 7 days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., last about 30 minutes, and are $22 per person. Griffith Observatory 2800 East Observatory Road 213-473-0800 www.griffithobservatory.org Griffith Observatory sits high on a hill, with views of the city of Los An- geles, as well as views of the Holly- wood Sign. It's open daily, except for Monday. The surrounding Griffith Park area offers many trails and ar- eas of interest. The observatory has a planetarium and other programs. Griffith Observatory has been used in the filming of many television shows and movies. Hammer Museum 10899 Wilshire Boulevard 310-443-7000 hammer.ucla.edu The Hammer Museum opened in 1990. Admission to the museum is free and it's open daily, except Mon- day. The museum has a number of exhibitions and collections, includ- ing contemporary work, sculptures, and others. Hollywood Walk of Fame 7018 Hollywood Boulevard 323-469-8311 www.walkoffame.com The Hollywood Walk of Fame spans a large area of the street in Holly- wood, with one of the main areas near the Dolby Theatre and TCL Chinese Theatre. The Walk of Fame has more than 2,500 stars in the sidewalk with the names of actors, singers, and other entertainers. It's open every day of the week with varying hours, with the excep- tion of Monday. The museum was founded by Eli and Edythe Broad and has 2,000 works of art. Ad- mission to the museum is free, but entrance and some specific exhibits may require reservations. California Science Center 700 Exposition Park Drive 323-724-3623 californiasciencecenter.org The California Science Center features numerous exhibitions on many topics, including ecosystems and air and space. The museum is also home to the Space Shuttle En- deavour. Admission to the museum is free for permanent exhibition galleries, although IMAX and special exhibits may require special tickets. Disneyland 1313 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, CA 92802 714-781-4565 disneyland.disney.go.com Located just outside of Los Angeles in Anaheim is Disneyland. The park, which originally opened in 1955, is one of two parks on location, with Disney's California Adventure being the second. A variety of ticket types and packages are available. Disne- yland features classic rides, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Pe- ter Pan's Flight, Pirates of the Carib- bean, Splash Mountain, and many more. The park also has a variety of shows for guests of all ages. Los Angeles attractions The Santee Alley www.thesanteealley.com This popular shopping area is open 7 days a week year round and has more than 150 different stores that sell a variety of apparel and acces- sories. This shopping area is located between Santee Street, Maple Ave- nue, Olympic Boulevard, and 12th Street. It can be accessed by public transportation, and there is also nearby parking available. Westfield Century City 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard Los Angeles, CA 90067 Westfield Century City is located at 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard.
