EW SHOW DAILY 46 A SOA is ready to energize and inform attendees with not one keynote speaker but two at the ASCRS•ASOA Annual Meeting. In the past, ASOA has kicked off its meeting with an in- spiring keynote speaker on Saturday morning. This year, to keep that momentum going, there will be a second keynote speaker on Sunday. "The Opening General Session on Saturday sets the meeting tone, sending everyone off energized and motivated. We are excited to host a second general session on Sunday with another dynamic speaker to continue this energy," said Laureen Rowland, ASOA executive director. Today's Opening General Session at 9:00 a.m. will feature keynote speaker Christine Cashen, who will tell the crowd about her mission to "Stop Global Whining." Ms. Cashen, Council of Peers Award for Excellence Speaker Hall of Fame inductee, will use humor to show the audience members how their attitude can affect situations, for the better and the worse, and how they should "BOOGIE" (be outstanding or get involved elsewhere). Ms. Rowland will also give an address and unveil an exciting new ASOA initiative. Karen Bachman, COE, St. George, Utah, will assume the role of ASOA president during the Opening General Session, and several recognitions will be made, including the AE Editor's Choice Award, the Pinnacle Award for Vol- unteerism, and the ASOA fellow. Joe Mull, a healthcare leader- ship speaker, will deliver the keynote speech tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., on "Motivating Healthcare Teams in an Era of Change, More Work, and Fewer Resources." Specializing in leadership development, employee engagement and "soft skills" train- ing, Mr. Mull has spent thousands of hours shaping managers into strong leaders with his compelling content and dynamic delivery. ASOA roundtables will run from 11:00 a.m.–noon today, following the Opening General Session, and ASOA practice management courses will be held throughout the after- noon and the course of the meeting. Course tracks include Advanced Ad- ministrator, Business Management, Coding and Billing, EHR and Health Information Technology, Human Resources, Leadership and Strategic Management, Marketing and Busi- ness Compliance, and Subspecialties. The BOOST (Business of Ophthal- mology Standards) track consists of ASOA CME-designated courses that provide physicians with essential business education to maximize practice efficiency and profitability. ASOA is bringing back its featured sessions track, which was new in 2017. This includes two government-relations sessions today: Government 101 from 2:45–3:45 p.m. and a Legislative and Regula- tory Affairs Update from 4:00–5:00 p.m. Sunday will feature an ASOAn- alytics update from 1:30–2:30 p.m. and a MACRA educational course, "The Second Year of MIPS: What You Need to Know to be Successful," from 4:00–5:00 p.m.; this course will repeat on Monday from 10:30–11:30 a.m. On Monday, Daniel Cham- bers, COE, will lead a discussion on private equity from 9:15–10:15 a.m., and William Koch, COE, will pres- ent "Public Speaking: Not the Kiss of Death" in a two-part course from 1:30–3:45 p.m. Highlights also include a joint Young Eye Surgeons (YES)/ASOA symposium today from 3:00–4:30 p.m., and a joint ASCRS•ASOA sym- posium on Sunday from 1:00–2:30 p.m. The ASOA Networking Lounge in room 206 of the Convention Center will feature Consultants on Call today through Monday and the ASOA Book Nook and Ribbon Wall. ASOA invites all attendees of the meeting to its party, sponsored in part by CareCredit, on Sunday at the Howard Theater. Ms. Rowland said the meeting overall is a phenomenal opportunity for networking, connecting with colleagues, and sharing experiences. "The purpose of the meeting is not just education, but to provide an experience," said Samantha Engler, ASOA meeting and program manager. "We want you to come to our meeting and leave it loving your job more than you did when you showed up. You've got to put the spark back in, otherwise, it's just a job, and who wants just a job?"
