Tal Raviv, MD, New York, pre-
sented the first case, which was that
of a cataract patient with low myo-
pia and some degree of astigmatism.
This patient had never worn readers
or progressives and liked to read one
book a week.
Panelist Kendall Donaldson,
MD, Plantation, Florida, said she
always worries about lower myopes
who are not used to wearing glasses.
"We have to worry about their
lifestyle and how we might change
their lifestyle," she said, adding
that she will often use a ReSTOR 2.5
(Alcon, Fort Worth, Texas) in these
patients and has had success with
mini-monovision as well. "I always
talk to patients to tell them this isn't
a one eye process … this is two eyes
and we'll reassess after the first eye."

an extended depth of focus (EDOF)
lens could be an option for these

he clinical conundrums
symposium Saturday after-
noon, which discussed the
surgical correction of pres-
byopia, took on a different
format compared to previous years.
Richard Hoffman, MD, Eugene,
Oregon, co-moderator of the session,
explained that presenters were given
3 minutes to present their case fol-
lowed by interactive input from the
panelists who highlighted potential
problems and shared what they
would do in the situation.
"This format is meant to be fun
and interactive," said co-moderator
John Vukich, MD, Madison, Wis-
consin.
