Benchmarking means compar- ing a business's performance and processes to industry standards and best practices used by similar com- panies. In this interactive session, a panel of benchmarking experts shared examples of how adminis- trators can use benchmarks to make better, more informed business decisions for their practices. "It's critical to make intelligent business decisions; we can no longer just go with our gut," said Deborah Davis, COE, Buffalo, New York, during the session. "We have to back it up with data." Turning practice data into dollars Mr. Theine describes how administrators can use benchmarks to understand how their practice compares to industry standards.
