tion of Ophthalmologists
(CLAO) was titled "Sexy
Contact Lenses" and
explored the latest technologies in
contacts lenses. It was moderated by
Jessica Ciralsky, MD, New York.
Deborah Jacobs, MD, Boston,
touched on the "myopia epidemic"
in her presentation. In East Asia,
the prevalence of myopia is 80–90%
in school aged children, she said,
noting that it is thought that there
are both genetic and environmental
factors of myopia, with industrializa-
tion being an environmental factor.
In myopia, the image is focused
in front of the retina, Dr. Jacobs said.
When we give traditional correction,
we push the plane of focus back,
she said, and as we move the center
back, you get peripheral hyperopia.
