T he iStent Trabecular MicroBypass Stent (Glaukos, Laguna Hills, Calif.) has a short learning curve, is a safe and efficacious procedure, and has been a great advance in glaucoma surgery, physicians said here. At an EyeWorld Education event, "Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS): An Emerging New Treatment Option," Iqbal (Ike) K. Ahmed, MD, Toronto; Thomas W. Samuelson, MD, St. Paul, Minn.; Kerry D. Solomon, MD, Charleston, S.C.; Lisa B. Arbisser, MD, Salt Lake City; Pablo M. Arregui, MD, Chico, Calif.; Richard A. Lewis, MD, Sacramento, Calif.; David F. Chang, MD, Los Altos, Calif.; Gerd U. Auffarth, MD, Heidelberg, Germany; and Kevin T. Lavery, MD, Jackson, Mich., discussed their pearls for implanting the iStent. They showed videos of the procedure and related their experience using the device. In addition, Dr. Chang outlined reimbursement issues with the FDA-approved procedure.
