"The event at the meeting is extremely important to maintain visibility of eyePAC and create something that's desirable," Dr. Steinert said. "But it's really more about raising the awareness in our membership, where the support of political action committees is about 1% of our members, and we need much more involvement." Dr. Steinert said he thinks that having a visible event in a nice venue helps to make people start to think about eyePAC and contributing to it. The Walt Disney Family Museum is "just breathtaking," he said. Ultimately, for eyePAC to function, it requires supporting the political process, which includes political action committees as well, Dr. Steinert said. EW 48 STANFORD CRT. T he eyePAC reception on Friday featured views of the Golden Gate Bridge and gave guests the opportunity to explore the unique Walt Disney Family Museum, a site dedicated to the work and accomplishments of Walt Disney with animation, pictures, and other artifacts. This year's event raised $56,000, with about 170 people in attendance. Priscilla P. Arnold, MD, Bettendorf, Iowa, stressed eyePAC's value to those in the ophthalmology field. "It's our way to represent our profession in the legislative arena and regulatory arena in Washington." She said it's very important to make the voice strong with eyePAC, which focuses on the laws and guidelines dealt with by patients and doctors, as well as reimbursement issues.
