surroundings of Isabella Stewart
Gardner's collection of renowned
artworks. Attendees had private
access
to the art, which featured
priceless paintings by artists
throughout history, including
Johannes Vermeer, Sandro Botticelli,
and John Singer Sargent. Attendees
mingled and networked in the
building, which was designed to
evoke a 15th-century Venetian
palace. More than 160 people
attended
the event, with approxi-
mately $52,000 raised.
"You have to support organized
ophthalmology, and eyePAC is one
of the important things to support,"
said Frank Burns, MD, Louisville,
Ky., who attended the event. Dr.
Burns is the legislative chair of
the Kentucky Academy of Eye
Physicians and Surgeons. He said
that Dr. Paul speaking earlier in the
evening and the reception at the
museum were both beneficial for
physicians to see and experience.
"I'm willing to support eyePAC
anyway I can," he said. "This is a
fantastic way to take part—it's a
no-brainer
for me."
"So much of healthcare is
driven by the government," said
Parag Parekh, MD, Brookville, Pa.,
who also attended the event.
Dr. Parekh is a member of the
Government Relations Committee.
"[This] committee is one of the most
important parts of the organiza-
tion,"
and a true way of contribut-
ing to receiving adequate funding
from the government, he said.
"It's a way to defend our ability
to deliver these services. We can't
deliver these services to patients for
free or at a loss," he said.
While the event raises awareness
and funds for government-related
issues, the eyePAC venue is also al-
ways wonderful, and the attendees
are great to talk to as well, he said.
"It's so well put-together and
the people who attend the event are
always so interesting," he said.

Based on what you have seen today, after
implanting a multifocal IOL, how much post-
operative cylinder error is acceptable before
it starts to affect visual quality and acuity?
5% 0.25 D
67% 0.50 D
28% 0.75 D
0% 1.00 D
0% More than 1.00 D
After this symposium, 100% of attendees believed that after implanting a multifocal,
residual cylinder above 0.75 D will affect visual quality and acuity. 72% of physicians
believed anything above 0.5 D of residual cylinder will affect visual quality and acuity
for these patients. This poll was taken at the "New Levels of Performance and Visual
Outcomes with the Latest AMO IOL Technologies" symposium.
