Optional seminars provide attendees the
chance to broaden skills and knowledge
T
he optional workshops
held annually at the ASOA
Congress can give you or
your staff in-depth knowl-
edge of leadership, coding,
and practice management.
Optional workshops were held
on Friday, with the COE Review
Course continuing through Satur-
day. The Review Course covers busi-
ness operations, basic ophthalmic
knowledge, legal and regulatory
affairs, and risk management,
among other topics.
At Friday's "Maximizing Leader-
ship Skills," attendees discovered
how to address difficult personnel
challenges. This half-day seminar
included interactive exercises, case
studies, and sharing of best prac-
tices.
At "Practice Management Boot
Camp: What You Must Know to
Succeed," new ophthalmic practice
managers discovered the basics of
practice management in eight core
areas.
The "ICD-10: Are You Ready?"
workshop helped to prepare atten-
dees for ICD-10, which will be
implemented in 2014. Attendees
learned about coding differences
between ICD-9 and ICD-10, under-
standing education and training
needs, and more.
During "Pinto Practice Coach-
ing," consultant John B. Pinto, San
Diego, discussed how ophthalmic
administrators and other practice
leaders can become better skilled at
leading practices.
"Everyday Use of Excel for the
Practice Administrator" covered
the practical and everyday use of
Microsoft Excel, including entering
labels, moving worksheets, advanced
formulas, and more.
ASOA's optional courses require
separate registration; some of the
workshops require registration prior
to the meeting. Attendees earn COE
credit for attending. EW
