EW SHOW DAILY 24 ASCRS Symposia Monday, May 9, 2016 by Vanessa Caceres EyeWorld Contributing Writer Dynamic symposia are part of today's schedule G et your week off to a roaring start with the dynamite symposia held today at the ASCRS annual meeting. All symposia will be held in the convention center. The "Complicated and Chal- lenging Cases in Cataract Surgery Video Symposium" will feature challenging cases in cataract surgery from around the world, presented by ASCRS members and discussed by the panel. Presenters will share insights and clinical pearls with the audience. At the conclusion of the session, the audience will determine which case should be selected as the "Best Teaching Case" and awarded the Golden Apple Award. It will be held 8:00–9:30 a.m. in Great Hall B and C. A session on cornea ectasia will discuss the relative risks of ectasia, grading and scoring, corneal biome- chanics, and more. "Cornea Ectasia: Prevention and Management" is cosponsored by the ASCRS Cornea Clinical Committee and the Refrac- tive Surgery Clinical Committee. It will take place in room 255–257 from 8:00–9:30 a.m. The "ASCRS Military Refractive Surgery" symposium will cover a wide range of topics that affect mili- tary refractive surgery. It will be held from 8:00–9:30 a.m. in room 243. The "IIIC Symposium" will feature information from the International Intraocular Implant Club from 1:00–2:30 p.m. in room 255–257. "Strange But True" will add a quirky twist to your day. Per the session description, "The most unusual cases on the planet will be presented in this video symposium and discussed by equally unusual experts." This one will take place from 3:00–4:30 p.m. in Great Hall B and C. "Don't Laser That Cornea! Incorporating the 2016 Richard L. Lindstrom, MD Lecture" will discuss special considerations and contrain- dications for the use of the excimer laser on the cornea. The symposium is sponsored by the Contact Lens As- sociation of Ophthalmologists and will be held from 3:00–4:30 p.m. in room 255–257. Anterior segment controversies focus of JCRS symposium T his afternoon, the Health Information Technology (HIT) sympo- sium, "Meaningful Use: Managing the Need to Know List," will focus on what providers need to know about Meaningful Use in 2016 and what to do when things go awry. The Stage 2 Modi- fications Rule released in 2015 laid out different requirements for providers in 2015, 2016, and 2017. Panelists will provide an overview of these changes. Speakers will also focus on measures ophthalmology practices struggled with in 2015 and provide tips on how to meet these measures in 2016. In addition, 2 administrators will share hands-on strategies they have used to successfully meet Meaningful Use in the past few years. The symposium will also discuss broadly the future of EHR Meaningful Use as it becomes part of the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2019. Candace Simerson, COE, Minnesota Eye Consultants, Minneapolis, will moderate the session. Panelists will include Hayley Boling, MBA, Wil- liam Koch, COA, COE, CPC, and Tera Roy.
